Nils on the Road – part 2

I am always paranoid that I might forget something when I leave on a plane. This time was no exception. I was to leave for a month and only had 3 ½ hours of sleep.

The luggage was very heavy everything was filled up to the hilt. My wife dropped me off at the airport and I went to check in the big suitcase. The guy just lifted it and put a “heavy” sticker on it, but did not weigh it. He checked it in and I gave him a good tip.

I had a stop over in Chicago and finally arrived in Charlotte at 8:30 pm. I did realize in Chicago, that I had left my iPhone and iPad charger behind. It was packed originally, but I took it out to charge my phone overnight and was too tired to remember to put it back in. So texted the driver, who was to pick me up that we needed to make a stop and get a new charger. He knew a local place that was still open – problem solved. When I checked into the hotel it was about 10pm, and the one problem about traveling from LA to the East Coast is, that one arrives often too late to get dinner. I don’t like airplane food, and the cheaper airlines don’t offer you anything more than pretzels anyways. I was happy to find out that across from the hotel was the local Hooters, which served food until midnight.

There I ran into some of the guys that had played on the festival this day, Richard Elliot, Steve Cole and Oli Silk. So we had a great time, I could not stay too long though, I had a call time of 9:30 am (= 6:30 am LA time) to set up for a noon show in the cruise boat. The show went very well. It was completely sold out. They had more requests for seats than they could fill, which always makes me feel good. IMG_6432By 2 pm I was all done, went back to the hotel and changed. Now I got to hang out backstage and check out the other acts, Doc Powell, Eric Darius and Jazz Funk Soul. It was a bit cold but I had a wonderful afternoon at a beautifully organized festival.

Cheers to Tammy Greene and Tony Lype and all their volunteers.

The next morning I could finally sleep in, since my plane to Newark did not leave until 3pm.

… to be continued
