I&#8217;ve seen it for as low as $600 used and this flexible little amp is worth every penny. As far as I know Bogner does not make this amp anymore.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I first got introduced to it when I brought my amp in for maintenance. Jörg at Bogner gave me an Alchemist as a loaner, while my treasured Ecstacy head was re-tubed and fine tuned. It came with an open back 2&#215;12 cabinet with one Celestion Green back and one Celestion Vintage 30 in it. An unusual combination you might think and so did I. But when I plugged in my guitar, I was simply amazed by the tone it produced. The clean tone was warm and transparent. It felt like I could touch every note. It was less aggressive and not as funky as the Ecstacy, but it had a certain softness, that worked well for Contemporary Jazz. The combination of my guitar, a Valley Arts Custom Pro, the amp and the cabinet just worked beautifully.</p>
<p>I started recording with it and I ended up using it for the entire album, my 2011 release “<a title="CD What The Funk" href="https://www.nilsguitar.com/what-the-funk/">What the Funk</a>”. It was used on the 2011 Smooth Jazz song of the year “ Jump Start”, after “Pacific Coast Highway”, my biggest number 1 Billboard Hit to date.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class=" size-medium wp-image-968 alignright" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/micing-from-behind-300x174.jpg" alt="micing from behind" width="300" height="174" srcset="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/micing-from-behind-300x174.jpg 300w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/micing-from-behind-150x87.jpg 150w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/micing-from-behind-560x326.jpg 560w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/micing-from-behind-550x320.jpg 550w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/micing-from-behind.jpg 576w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></p>
<p>The guitar tone I had on “<a title="CD What The Funk" href="https://www.nilsguitar.com/what-the-funk/" target="_blank">Sarah Smile</a>” is my favorite sound I was ever able to record. I used the clean channel with the lead boost on and placed one microphone in the front of the speaker and one behind it.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-963" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nm.tiff" alt="Mic on speaker" width="1" height="1" />I did not even ask for my other amp back until I was almost done with the CD, out of fear I would have to return it. And actually I told Jörg and Reinhold that I did not want to give it back and they gave it to my as an endorsement gift. I made a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vNVxFyk2-4" target="_blank">video</a> as a thank you promoting the amp showcasing some of it’s features.</p>
<p>Basically the Bogner Alchemist is a tube guitar amp with two channels, one clean and one overdrive. There is a boost switch, which effectively turns that into four channels, by changing the volume from a rhythm to lead level. One of the things I like about it too, is that it has a built in reverb and ducking delay. So I can take this amp as it is to a jam session without bringing anything else. The lead channel can be adjusted from full shred to a more bluesy sound. But there is also a special lead setting I used on “Detroit Strut”. By switching the punch button on the lead channel off, I got this clean lead tone, but with a lot of sustain. You can check out the Video <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vNVxFyk2-4" target="_blank">here<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" size-full wp-image-966 aligncenter" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/bogner-TN.jpg" alt="bogner TN" width="120" height="90" /></a></p>
<p>If you like the sound you can get two of my songs as free downloads, just for signing up to my mailing list at <a title="Free Music from nilsmusic.com" href="https://www.nilsguitar.com/free-music-from-nilsmusic-com/" target="_blank">nilsguitar.com</a><br />

For those of you who have never been. It&#8217;s the convention of music manufacturers, where companies introduce their newest instruments, software, improvements etc..<br />
For musicians it&#8217;s the biggest toy store on earth.</p>
<p>I have been attending almost every year since I was a young adult in Germany. It is usually closed to the public, so you have to be invited, be registered by a company or <em>sneak in</em>, which gets harder every year. In the old days there was one day for the public, but not anymore. I guess too many people figured out how to get in anyways to turn the event into a zoo. And a Zoo it still is. 100&#8217;s of musician dressed as if they were ready to go on stage along with their groupies are crowding the isles. In between are business men trying to take orders and closing deals. There are lines of people cueing up to shake hands of well known musicians signing autographs at a booth of whatever company they are endorsing. All of a sudden a procession of body guards is clearing the way. It&#8217;s Stevie Wonder. I wave to him, but he doesn&#8217;t see me. :0)<br />
The show is setup in several halls at the Anaheim convention center. One hall is mostly for software, one is mostly for recording equipment, one for guitars and basses and one is for drums and percussion. Unless you are a drummer you probably want to avoid this one. It is the <em>nuttiest and loudest</em>. Imagine 100 drummers banging on things to their own beat at the same time. Around the convention center there are now a lot of stages and bands perform to showcase their talents. Most of them are unknown. It&#8217;s not a paying gig. But there are also concerts sponsored by companies that feature world class musicians.</p>
<div id="attachment_930" style="width: 548px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-930" class=" wp-image-930 aligncenter" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-Reinhold-Bogner-NAMM-2015.jpg" alt="NIls and Reinhold Bogner NAMM 2015" width="538" height="404" srcset="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-Reinhold-Bogner-NAMM-2015.jpg 550w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-Reinhold-Bogner-NAMM-2015-150x113.jpg 150w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-Reinhold-Bogner-NAMM-2015-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px" /><p id="caption-attachment-930" class="wp-caption-text">Nils and Reinhold Bogner</p></div>
<p>NAMM changed over the years, but mainly I think that my expectations changed.<br />
Where I used to go just out of curiosity and to maybe catch a performance, I now go for business relations and to be up on the latest developments. I rate the show by the &#8220;WOW factor&#8221; and the &#8220;Accomplishment factor&#8221;.<br />
The &#8220;WOW factor&#8221; scale rises when there are some truly exciting new items to see. I remember the day Melodyne was introduced, a software that let&#8217;s you manipulate audio recordings in radical new ways. <img decoding="async" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-944" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Melodyne-300x183.jpg" alt="Melodyne" width="200" srcset="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Melodyne-300x183.jpg 300w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Melodyne-150x91.jpg 150w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Melodyne-560x341.jpg 560w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Melodyne-550x335.jpg 550w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Melodyne.jpg 1005w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />We can now change a single note within a chord in an audio file without affecting the other notes around it, effectively fixing a bad chord or changing it from minor to major for instance. Before that, you could have paid me to hold a lecture why this is not possible, but those mad German scientists did it. Don&#8217;t ask me how, but audio editing was forever changed. &#8211; WOW!<br />
The &#8220;accomplishment factor&#8221; comes into play when I can secure an endorsement (free gear) or a memo loan (free gear, which I eventually have to give back) from a manufacturer. Also (re)- establishing personal relationships with others from the industry.</p>
<p>On those scales, this years show did quite well. I am excited about the new upcoming Omnisphere 2 synth, which is one of my favorite tools. It got a major overhaul. Also <strong>Bogner</strong> has two new guitar amps, that I now need to have. The <strong>Goldfinger</strong> with one of the best clean tones I have ever heard and the <strong>Alma</strong> which is just soooo small and portable, while still sounding amazing.<img decoding="async" class="align left size-medium wp-image-937" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Alma-300x225.jpg" alt="Alma" width="200" srcset="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Alma-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Alma-150x113.jpg 150w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Alma-560x421.jpg 560w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Alma-550x413.jpg 550w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Alma.jpg 631w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /> I am starting my Christmas wish list early.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="align right wp-image-932" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-TImmGodwin-NAMM-2015.jpg" alt="NIls and TImmGodwin NAMM 2015" width="293" height="219" srcset="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-TImmGodwin-NAMM-2015.jpg 320w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-TImmGodwin-NAMM-2015-150x113.jpg 150w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NIls-and-TImmGodwin-NAMM-2015-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px" />Then I had some face time with Tim Godwin from <strong>Taylor guitars</strong>. I have a Taylor acoustic guitar and love it. He agreed to let me use one of their guitars for the recording on my upcoming acoustic album. More tonal variety -great.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I also met several of my peers and talked shop and updated contact infos. I was happy to run into Ndugu Chancellor, who I had not seen in years.</p>
<div id="attachment_933" style="width: 370px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-933" class="size-large wp-image-933" src="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nils-and-Ndugu-e1422306044428-560x747.jpg" alt="NIls and Ndugu Chancellor at NAMM 2015" width="360" srcset="https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nils-and-Ndugu-e1422306044428-560x747.jpg 560w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nils-and-Ndugu-e1422306044428-113x150.jpg 113w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nils-and-Ndugu-e1422306044428-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nils-and-Ndugu-e1422306044428-413x550.jpg 413w, https://www.nilsguitar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Nils-and-Ndugu-e1422306044428-300x400.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px" /><p id="caption-attachment-933" class="wp-caption-text">Nils and Ndugu Chancellor at NAMM 2015</p></div>
